623-2369 or email wcsrclub@wildblue.net.SAT AUG 21: WEAVERVILLE - ANDREW HELLER (Austin Texas-based singer) at Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center at 7pm. 2009 Entertainer of the Year nominee. Singing music from his program "Mostly Broadway", including music from My Fair Lady, Camelot, South Pacific, Kismet, and more. He will also sing songs from his current recording, "I Believe In Angels". Andrew may be accompanied by a local musicians including Jill Cox on piano, Mike Bourg on drums, Hal Oleari on guitar, Joe Newnam on bass, and Mitch Hawley on sax. Andrew, a part-time resident of Zenia, is a classically trained pop tenor with three Top 20 singles on national radio. His recordings and musical arrangements are known for a rich sound that mixes classic and contemporary ideas and renowned players on Austin and Nashville scenes. "Andrew Heller has the vocal quality and range to make any singer jealous!" says Peter Bay, musical director of Austin Symphony, with whom Heller performs yearly. Heller recently returned to a full time pursuit of music after a storied career in high technology. As a youth, Andrew placed first in New York Young Artist Metropolitan Opera Auditions and was mentored by Leonard Bernstein. He performed many lead solo roles at New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral, Marble Collegiate Church, and more. He put his professional singing career aside to pursue advanced degrees in science and mathematics, and began his prolific previous career at IBM when he was barely out of his teens. Andrew is a Renaissance man whose performance you will not want to miss. This year's contest is dedicated to the memory of Jim Burgess Sr., father of Trinity County fiddling. Fiddle Contest funds are needed! Serving Lewiston's neediest families with food donated by area service organizations, food-service businesses, church groups and individuals. Donations always needed! They have a fridge and freezer and can accept refrigerated and frozen items, as well as non-perishables. Bring donations to one of their drop-off points in Lewiston during business hours: Old Lewiston Schoolhouse, Lewiston Hardware Store (in Trinity Dam Mobile Home Park), or Old Lewiston Mercantile & Variety Store (on Schoolhouse Road, next to Schoolhouse). Shasta chapter of DAT provides free training, including CPR and First Aid. They respond to house & forest fires, power outages, stranding due to weather, and more! There are DATs in Weaverville, Hayfork & Lewiston, and one has formed in Trinity Center/Coffee Creek. The future goal is to have all of Trinity County covered, even in more rural points like Junction City/Down River, and Van Duzen/Ruth/Southern Trinity. That way, not just a small group of people will have to do it all, they will have local groups in all communities. TUES AUG 17: WEAVERVILLE - BREAKFAST QUILT OF THE MONTH CLUB at 9am/10am. Sue Rhodes of Textile Traditions heard that folks want to use up some of those expansive fabric scraps! Her scrap happy program in winter 2009 was a hit. They each turned a box of scraps into fun, scrappy quilts. This time they will make blocks and quilts from strips! These quilts are great for gifts and comfort quilts and makes efficient use of those fabrics you loved, bought, but now need to do something with. Bring in a box of scraps. You will cut them into 2 1/2 inch strips, then get ready to create! Each month Sue will teach a new quilt design made from strips. In addition to quilts, she will also have some patterns for table runners and bags. In order to get in the mood for quilt making, they will meet at a local restaurant at 9am to have breakfast together. They will meet at a different restaurant each month - a great way to sample local fare. Breakfast meeting is completely optional, but it is a lot of fun. Meetings will be held at 10am on 3rd Tuesday of each month starting May 18 and will go until November 2010. Those who want to join Sue at breakfast will meet at 9am at chosen restaurant. Cost of program is only $5 per session and you will receive a new pattern each month (breakfast is on your own). You will work on each month's pattern together until noon to make sure you have all the techniques you need to create the quilt. More info or to register: call 623-6454.

THURS AUG 26: HAYFORK - INFANT PLAY GROUP at Khira's Yoga Balance 10am-12noon. Guided by Soleh. Vision is to provide a nourished space for infants to play and interact with each other while the mothers/fathers create a network where conscious parenting ideas can flourish and be applied. THURS SEPT 23: WEAVERVILLE - TRINITY COUNTY FIRE SAFE COUNCIL MEETING (TCFSC) at TCRCD conference room on Horseshoe Lane (behind front office) at 7pm. SUNDAY SEPT 5: BBQ AND FLY-IN, TRINITY LAKE LIONS, Trinity Center, Scott Museum, 12-6pm. Enjoy pit barbecued beef and turkey with all the side dishes. Desserts are provided by the Coffee Creek Fire Flies. Explore the Arts and Crafts show and aircraft on display. Enjoy live music.
